Welsh actor and musician, Iwan Rheon, has added a deliciously deep ruby red ale to his portfolio of performance and preservation. Teaming up with Hand Brew Co on the UK South Coast to create a beer that also does good for people and the planet.

Robin Goch Does good things for people and the planet
A percentage of profits from the sales of Robin Goch goes to WWF Cymru.
Iwan says “With this project, I'm supporting WWF Cymru who are fighting to restore vital habitats and species. I love to spend time in our beautiful countryside, but it’s under threat, and like you, I want to help. Recently, I worked with WWF to plant seagreass to help bring these incredible underwater meadows back to life. Over the last century we’ve lost 92% of seagrass meadows in the UK, which are important for capturing carbon and providing essential nursery habitats for important fish species. But there’s so much more to do. I named this beer Robin Goch as I love birds too, but they need a thriving ecosystem. There’s no second or third take for our planet, we have one chance to get this right and we have to act now. Enjoy this Welsh Red Ale and know that it’s doing its bit for people and the planet.”

A deep, warm ruby red ale, clear as glass and offering nostalgic notes of biscuit, warm bread and sweet caramel.
A gentle nudge of hops balances the sweetness with a subtle bitter backbone, bringing top notes of jammy grapefruit, sweet citrus and a hint of black pepper.

A word from the Hand
We’ve been watching Iwan since Misfits back in 2009, but as many did, we became captivated by his colossal performance in Game of Thrones. And there’s been many more since, including the global hit, Those About To Die.
One quiet Saturday afternoon in 2022, our great pal and Hand regular, Lewis, brought his childhood friend in for a few drinks. This is when we first met Iwan. Lewis and Iwan like a pint, but that afternoon a new drink was created - Shaquila. It’s simple. A pint of our Original Pale Ale, Shaka, with a bit of Tequila in it. It’s delicious. Pro tip: Shaquila is even better if it’s Shaka, Ting and Tequila.
Needless to say, when we started talking about collaborating on a beer for our Art You Can Drink project, it wasn’t going to be Shaquila in the can. Iwan wanted something that reflected his Welsh roots and did something for his other passion: wildlife and the environment. Head Brewer Kate suggested a Welsh Red Ale, Iwan named it Robin Goch (Red Robin) and Hand’s Artist in Residence, HelloMarine created the stunning art.
We feel hugely honoured that Iwan joined up to Art You Can Drink - a project that creates delicious beer with awesome artists, where a portion of the profits goes to a charity close to the artists’ heart.
